The gestation period of mice is usually around twenty days, and they can have up to twelve pups in a litter. The typical female can give birth up to ten times a year, which means that mouse populations can grow exponentially and can actually get out of hand alarmingly fast.

With so many mice in one place, they have an amazing propensity to spread diseases like hantavirus and parasites like fleas. Since mice are attracted to food sources, the likes of which are stored in your kitchen, it’s not uncommon for mice to spread disease simply by traversing cooking surfaces and simply depositing bacteria as they move.
